I had my very first all film session and it was wonderful! It was an in-home and backyard motherhood session of a local Asheville florist and dear friend, Maggye Diaz with Twin Field Flowers.
She wore a beautiful dress from FEHRNVI and the most darling hat from Gigi Pip.
The session was inspired by The Traveling Hat Project that we’re hosting over at The Kindred Path. We are sending this beautiful hat to 5 other photographers to use in their sessions. We will have an image competition, all of the sessions will be featured on the journal, and the winner will be gifted the stunning Gigi Pip hat. It’s a lot of fun so go enter!
Any way, as I was thinking about which session to use this hat on; I knew I wanted a laid back and genuine motherhood session. I knew I wanted to leave my digital camera at home so I wouldn’t be tempted to use it so I decided that photographing a friend was the best way to go. Maggye and I wanted to have a motherhood session in her flower field a year ago but thanks to COVID (and some flooding) we weren’t able to. I love all things flowers but since it’s winter, we didn’t have a lot of flower options. We decided to use this Asheville florists home and yard instead. I wanted to showcase her bond with her boys but also bring elements of her farm life. We photographed her and her boys checking in on the little green sprouts they planted. I brought in some color to bring in the feelings of warmth, home, comfort, & life. This florist even created a stunning dried flower bouquet.
Working with florists in Asheville is important to me. I love flowers and I think they enhance a photograph and bring in so much life and color. Alongside a hat, they’re the perfect accessories to tell a story.
Enjoy this Asheville Florist Motherhood session on Film.
with love,
Lauren
